Mark Goodwin is the visionary founder of Cutting Edge Surgical Ventures, bringing nearly four decades of expertise in the medical and surgical fields. With an extensive background that encompasses selling, providing technical support, and delivering continuous educational support for a wide range of products—from simple instruments to advanced surgical image guidance and stereotactic radiosurgery systems—Mark’s career is marked by innovation and dedication to improving surgical outcomes.
In his early career, Mark spent several years specializing in the sales and support of spinal implants and instrumentation. This experience led him to invent IntraOsteal Navigation and Interrogation (IONI) Technologies, a groundbreaking advancement designed to enhance surgical precision and safety across multiple neuro and orthopedic diagnostic and therapeutic applications. Mark holds the first two patents for this transformative technology.
Mark’s inspiration for IONI Technologies stemmed from his initial experiences with spine surgery, where he was struck by the “primitive” nature of vertebral pedicle screw placement techniques during spinal fusion surgeries. This revelation fueled his commitment to innovate and improve these surgical procedures.
Mark graduated cum laude from La Salle University with a bachelor’s degree in biology, laying a strong academic foundation for his illustrious career in medical technology and surgical innovation.
Joe Goodwin leads business operations at Cutting Edge Surgical, providing strategic advice and coordinating development efforts. Known for his strategic thinking and visionary leadership, Joe brings a wealth of experience to his role. His diverse background includes serving as a naval intelligence officer, a state-level homeland security executive, a non-profit founder, and a consultant in analytics and public safety technology. These experiences have enabled him to make significant positive impacts in each of his roles.
Joe now channels his passion for innovation and leadership into supporting the growth of Cutting Edge Surgical Venture’s revolutionary technology within spinal surgery. His comprehensive approach and forward-thinking strategies are instrumental in driving the company’s success and advancing its cutting-edge solutions.
Joe graduated with merit from the U.S. Naval Academy, earning a bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering with a focus on Robotics and Computer Engineering. His academic background, combined with his professional experience, equips him with a unique perspective and skill set that he leverages to propel Cutting Edge Surgical forward.
With 25 years of experience in the spine medical device, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical industries. Early in his career he worked on late phase drug studies as well as surgeon training and education. His entrepreneurial desires and enjoyment in blending sales and technical support with product development lead him to startup spine companies where he helped grow sales, support the product development surgeon KOL interactions, and participate in new product launches.
In 2005 he transitioned into the Synthes sales force as an Associate Sales Consultant under Mark Goodwin’s mentorship. Together they worked in the Philadelphia spine market and their trusted business partnership grew. In 2014 Omar partnered with Mark Goodwin and Cutting Edge Surgical Ventures to help advance the IONI platform. Omar saw the need to bring this innovative system that helps better serve patients in need of spinal fusion surgery, to market.
Omar attended University of Delaware where he graduated with a bachelor’s of Science in Exercise Physiology with a minor in Chemistry.
